For those who don’t know very well the peculiary properties of porphyry, I would simply say that, in all its varieties in the world, it is probably on of the most nobles materials traditionally used for a great quality buildings and for an artistic poetry based on expressivity and lastingness.

The porphyry that pedretti’s brothers discovered and that they cava on camonica  valley’s mountains (over 2000mts. high, with a big business effort just for few months per year, in summer, when there is no snow) is one of the Italian varieties of the porphyries already know by the Egyptians who built the pyramids: the intense bloody red of those varieties was really useful (even if at those times the manufacturing was really hard because of the great resistance  that it showed to instruments) to create manufacts of great spectacularity.
Fiammato Spazzolato

Porphyries’ slabs waterwarned  like a mirror used as facings of some pyramids (from  there they have been carried of to be used as floors and mosaics during all the roman past architecture, also in our country).
It is know that the wonderful red Egyptian porphyry blocks were exported to the east: for example the “tetrachi’s statue” from bisanzio how is on the right side of st.marco’s cathedral in venice, or monumental costantino’s and his mother’s burials now in the  vatican‘s museums, or the infinity number of columns and decorations “di spoglio” taken from roman buildings and now present in all Italian churches.

Rising the Grigna river (that in the surroundings of esine gave to local population the possibility to work on the porphyry stones it brought down from the last glaciation) after the 2nd word war,  pedretti’s brothers, led by their their father, understood that maybe they could find the spring of those stones: and so they did it.

For years and with big sacrifice pedretti’s brothers, now the owners of the quarrier, carried down from the mountains always bigger and more perfect blocks of a compact and wonderful grey-reddish porphyry.

Thanks to its magmatic-effusive origines  the surfay of the slabs worked is really omogeneous: the microparts of traslucent quartz stand out on the brown and intense bakgrownd  like they would be stars in a shiny sky.
